ABLOY brand milestones
ABLOY’s story spans rotating-disc locking and today’s mechanical and electronic access-management products. A few established milestones provide useful context.
1907: the origin of the disc lock
Precision mechanic Emil Henriksson invented the mechanism in Helsinki that became the foundation of the ABLOY lock. Rotating-disc technology was a key starting point for the brand.
1968: the Joensuu factory
A new lock factory opened in Joensuu, Finland, to meet growing demand. Joensuu became an important manufacturing base for ABLOY.
Mechanical locking and electronic permissions
Current selection involves mechanical cylinders, padlocks, cam locks and electric locks, alongside systems such as PROTEC² CLIQ and ABLOY PULSE. Keys, update devices and management methods differ between platforms; sharing a brand does not establish compatibility.
Bring the history back to the project
The practical questions remain: which opening is controlled, how are permissions managed and what installation constraints apply? CLTECH helps customers check models and accessories against those requirements.
